Cooking for Sunday Dinner

As far back as I can remember, there have been special occasions at church where dinner on the church grounds was the order of the day. Too many times I’ve seen person after person walk in with store bought fried chicken. Was it lack of time, lack of planning or lack of ideas that I was never quite sure. I was certain, however, that it was not just isolated from my church.

It may sound strange, but I have traveled all over the country and experienced many different cultural areas. One thing that seems constant no matter where I live is that someone inevitably brings fried chicken from a local restaurant or deli to their makeshift offering.There’s nothing wrong with that of course, but there are so many great recipes available for Sunday dinner that it seems strange that so many people resort to this tired old tradition rather than spicing things up with a pot of spicy tacos or sweeten them. deliciously delicious and simple to prepare desserts.

Even for the health conscious, however, there are many wonderful types of salads that can be prepared for occasions like this that will provide you with a guilt-free entrance to whatever event you are preparing your offering for.

You don’t have to choose high-calorie or high-fat dishes for your Sunday dinner. In fact, when you cook, you should cook the things you like to eat.Most of us are far more likely to do our best to prepare the foods we love rather than those that seem like a chore to us. The same is true when cooking for potlucks and the like. Just be careful not to make the exact same dish every time or people will think it’s the only dish you can make.

I recommend taking a look at casserole recipes online and in your favorite magazines. Even magazines that feature healthier food options often feature a healthy casserole, large salad, or even dessert you can make for these events. My personal solution has always been to collect recipes over time that I’d like to try and use the potluck audience as recipe guinea pigs.That way if I or my family don’t like it we won’t be stuck with leftovers for a week and if we like it we can add it to our recipe rotation to use at home.

Sunday dinner cooking doesn’t have to be as stressful as many of us make it out to be. Many wonderful slow cooker recipes can actually be made while you sleep. Simply load the slow cooker with the right ingredients and turn it on before delivering. You should wake up to the wonderful aroma of whatever delicious food you have prepared so that you can always get ready for church in record time. This time-tested technique is a great way to make Sunday dinner quick and easy.

Even if you are one of the many very limited culinary talents, it is entirely possible to impress your friends, family and other church members with the right “easy to prepare” recipe.Desserts are by far the best way to accomplish this effort and can even be made the day before (in many cases) and stored in the refrigerator.
